Italian tubular cast on

Despite the name, which may evoke "depending on the tongue" contortionisms and various types of chasms, this is the most common cast on, because it allows you to obtain an edge with the right amount of elasticity.

It may be done with a different coloured spun yarn, which makes slipping off the first cast on simpler, or with the same spun yarn as the rest of your knitting: the result is the same. You begin in the manner described for casting on with one or two needles. With a spun yarn of a different colour, but of the same thickness as that used for the rest of the knitting, cast on half of the necessary stitches, plus one.

After casting on the necessary stitches continue with the spun yarn you have selected, bring the spun yarn in front of your knitting and point the needle into the first stitch.

Place the spun yarn on the two needles and do a plain stitch: in this way you will have not one, but two stitches (one plain stitch and one purl). Replicate these steps until the end: this way the number of stitches will be doubled.

Avvio tubolare

Plain stitch the purl stitches of the previous row. Continue with the steps described above until the end of the row.

Avvio tubolare

Plain stitch the purl stitches of the previous row. Once again, continue with the steps described above until the end of the row.
