Simple cast on

You will realize right from the start that this, as is often said about swimming, is a "complete sport". So, remove from your mind the picture of the grandmother who knits a sock to pass the time and take those wristbands and that Borg headband out of your drawer. Don't be frightened. It's not so difficult. You will, however, need to apply yourself.

Place the needle under your right underarm and, holding the ball of spun yarn also under your right, unwind a length of spun yarn equal to three times the width of the finished work, and then begin the first stitch.
Position the spun yarn on the thumb and index finger of your left hand, holding them slightly apart.

Insert the point of the needle into the loop, holding the spun yarn coming from the ball, on your right index finger.

Throw the spun yarn on the needle with a movement from the bottom to the top and from left to right.

With your left index finger bring the loop you have formed over the needle and pull out the stitch.

Pull both spun yarns, both the ball end and the tail end. Congratulations: the first stitch has been made.
